Abstract

Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/computed tomography (CT) is central to lung cancer staging and can alter treatment intent by detecting occult nodal and distant disease. FDG PET/CT contributes to treatment planning, biopsy targeting, radiotherapy delineation and assessment of metabolic response. Quantitative PET parameters provide complementary information on tumor burden, biological aggressiveness, and prognosis. Programmed death-ligand 1, fibroblast activation protein, and somatostatin receptor PET extend molecular imaging toward noninvasive assessment of tumor phenotype and potential theranostic targets. Artificial intelligence and radiomics may characterize tumor heterogeneity and predict molecular phenotype and treatment response but require further standardization and validation.
